Cebu police asked to intensify operations vs illegal numbers game

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO)-Cebu has asked the police and other units to strengthen their campaign against illegal numbers game.

PCSO-Cebu branch manager Glen Jesus Rada said they are thankful for the close monitoring that the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has done on the illegal numbers game wherein at least 18 individuals were arrested.

Rada, however, said that the number of arrested individuals is still minimal over the information they received that illegal activity is rampant in the city.

“Ang kaning 18, kuwang pa gyud ni siya, kay sa atong lang dungog info nga madawat nato, hapit tanang barangay naa man gud,” said Rada.

“We hope sad nga ang katong mga wala mahidakpan, pag makahibaw mo hinay-hinay og hunong no kaysa madakpan sad sila,” he added.

Rada further reminded the citizen of Cebu City that there are no Small Town Lottery (STL) outlets authorized to operate in the city.

He also said that those yellow makeshift booths along the roads are not authorized to sell number combinations using PCSO’s lotto results.

The legal ones, according to him, are those being sold in the PCSO’s lotto and Keno outlets.

Furthermore, Rada also urged the police and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-7 to go after the people behind the illegal numbers game.

According to him, these unauthorized ones might have financiers and further asked the law enforcement agencies to go deeper into the matter.

Rada also said the PCSO donates 30 percent of its sales to charity institutions and to the funding of the country’s Universal Health Care Program and appealed to the people not to patronize those illegal ones. — GMR (FREEMAN)
