CEBU, Philippines —  The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-7) has entered into a memorandum of agreement with the Anti-Crime and Community Emergency Response Team (ACCERT) to help secure the coastal areas in Central Visayas.

ACCERT members will serve as BFAR-7’s force multipliers in the enforcement of fisheries and aquatic laws. They will also augment the agency’s responders in times of emergencies and help prevent criminal activities involving fisherfolks.

"The (ACCERT) recognizes the importance of the support and cooperation of the public particularly the nature caring community thru its Bantay Kalikasan Program and its vital role as volunteer force multipliers in information gathering to strengthen and invigorate the aquatic resources campaign of the (BFAR-7)," read a portion of the MOA signed by BFAR-7regional director Dr. Allan Poquita and the representative of ACCERT.

ACCERT has assured of its commitment to assist and cooperate with BFAR-7 in the campaign against 'crime, moral, spiritual transformation of its employees and fisherfolks beneficiaries'.

As part of the agreement, the organization would intensify its campaign against any form of criminal activities. As force multiplier, its members are also expected to keep an eye on the enforcement of the existing rules and regulations along with the enhancement of moral and spiritual aspects of the fisherfolks.

"The BFAR-7 shall initiate discussions with the goal to eliminate miscommunication, misinformation and misinterpretation when it comes to legislation created by national laws," the memorandum added.

As partner, BFAR-7 will provide assistance to equip the members of ACCERT through seminars and trainings. — FPL (FREEMAN)
