Vaccination for Cebu City elderly starts today
Vice Mayor Michael Rama, lead convenor of the city’s vaccination program, said this is just a preliminary vaccination for seniors.

CEBU, Philippines — Senior citizens in Cebu City are set to receive today their first dose of vaccines against the coronavirus disease.

The inoculation venues are at the University of Cebu-Banilad Campus and Robinsons Galleria.

Vice Mayor Michael Rama, lead convenor of the city’s vaccination program, said this is just a preliminary vaccination for seniors.

“We will look at the whole thing and it will become our yardstick,” he said.

He said the city will assess today’s activity to determine whether or not to operate or go full blast.

City Health Department officer-in-charge Dr.Jeffrey Ibones said only around 400 seniors and healthcare workers are scheduled for vaccination today.

He said walk-ins will not be accommodated.

He said the city will stick to its schedules based on the list of pre-registered seniors for vaccination. The schedules were already sent to the elderly.

Mayor Edgardo Labella will lead today’s vaccination. The mayor, who will turn 70 next month, is yet to get his doctor’s approval for vaccination.

Rama, on the other hand, is scheduled to take his first shot tomorrow, but said he will be around in today’s maiden vaccination of seniors to do some “pep talk” especially for those who are still in doubt.

A3 registration

Meanwhile, the City of Talisay has started the registration of A3 priority or those persons with comorbidities after the registration of senior citizens.

“When we received stocks of COVID-19 vaccine from the Department of Health-7, we also conducted vaccinations for both medical frontliners and senior citizens. And until now, continuous gihapon ang atong pagpamakuna as long as naay available stocks gi-provide and DOH sa atoa,“ said Mayor Samsam Gullas.

For those who want to enlist under A3, one can just approach their barangays’ Gender and Development (GAD) focal person.

Gullas also said the city will start administering today the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine to the city’s vaccinators and other health workers. — KQD (FREEMAN)
