Barangay lifts stay home order

Mary Ruth R. Malinao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Starting today, April 18, 2021, the stay-at-home order every Sunday is lifted in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, thanks to the decreasing trend in new COVID-19 cases in the barangay.

Barangay Captain Michael Gacasan said the total number of active cases in Guadalupe is at around 40 and the new cases recorded for the past days were already in single digit.

“As of now, mag-single digit na mi sige. Pila na ka days, sagunson, not like before nga 30, 40 kada adlaw,” he said.

With this latest development, all establishments will now be allowed to open on Sundays with all the residents still required to observe the minimum health protocols.

“Maka-open na sila, maka-operate na sila og Sunday pero ang among health protocols, sige lang gihapon. Og walay quarantine pass di gihapon makalaag-laag,” said Gacasan.

Local authorities had implemented the stay-at-home order on Sundays in Guadalupe starting January 24 to help prevent the further spread of the virus, considering that the new cases being recorded in the barangay during that time was high.

This as it was observed that every Sunday, a large number of people would go outside their respective residences since most of them do not work on that day.

“So at least naa ta’y gibuhat nga menus ang abot sa tawo during that day,” said Gacasan.

For Gacasan, the measure that was implemented for almost three months may have contributed in lowering the number of COVID-19 cases in the barangay.

“Basin usa sad na sa nakatabang... kay sa contact tracing, ang hinungdan gyud sa nakadaghan gyud sa COVID ang mga department store man ug mga market. Unya labi pa ning mga kan-anan,” he said.

Gacasan urged the residents to continue to observe the health protocols and stay at home unless there is compelling reason for them go out.

“Importante lang gihapon nga buhaton ang health protocols. Ituman lang gihapon unta tanan para sa kaayuhan sa kadaghanan ug sa ilang family. Mao ra gyud atong hangyo,” said Gacasan. – JMD (FREEMAN)
