Consolacion fire leaves 35 families Homeless

CEBU, Philippines —  A total of 35 families lost their homes when a fire hit Purok Rafael and Gomburza in District 4, Barangay Pulpogan, Consolacion, Cebu yesterday afternoon.

Consolacion Fire Station officer-in-charge, Senior Fire Officer 2 Edwin Quicoy, said that the fire reportedly started in a room of the house owned by Corazon Abella who at that time was not around.

The almost an hour blaze which started at 12:18 p.m. and was put under control at around 1:18 p.m. has sent 26 residential houses into ashes while four were partially burned.

The damaged of the fire was pegged at P300,000.

“Under investigation pa ang cause sa fire pero ang apo anang nasunogan nakapanimaho daw og sunog sa wire,” Quicoy told The Freeman.

Fire Officer 1 Annalou Romano, chief administrative staff of Consolacion Fire Station, said that no fatality nor injured were reported in the incident.

Consolacion Mayor Joannes Alegado visited the fire scene and said that the municipal government will give financial assistance and relief goods to the fire victims.

Pulpogan barangay captain Avelino Bihag said that the fire victims were temporarily sheltered at the Bagong Lipunan Elementary School and Day Care Center in the barangay. — Rowena Capistrano, GMR (FREEMAN)
