CCPO mulls regulating entry of e-bikes, trisikad

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is eyeing to recommend the need to regulate the entry of e-bikes and trisikad inside the Carbon Public Market.

These modes of transportation are found to be causing traffic, affecting vendors and market goers.

Police Lt. Colonel Wilbert Parilla, deputy director for operations of CCPO, told reporters yesterday that the matter was brought up in a meeting with the Carbon Public Market administrators and other security clusters.

“Usa sa atong mga nakita ron na problema kaning kadaghan na sad sa mga e-bike, even the station commander of Station 6 and 5 kagahapon sa gihimo namo nga command conference, mao na siya problema nga nakita,” said Parilla.

Parilla said that according to the instruction of the CCPO director, Police Colonel Josefino Ligan, they will be recommending the regulations and will set a system that would also not deprive them of their source of income.

“So base sa instruction sad sa City Director, we have to make a regulation aning mga e-bike kung asa lang ni sila dapita, because we all know nga panginabuhi sad ni sa atong mga kaigsuonan pero dili pwede nga sila nalay magbuot kung asa sila padung para sad dili sad ta gihapon magsamok dira sa Carbon,” said Parilla.

During the observance of Holy Week, the police and the administrators prohibited the entry of private vehicles to regulate the flow of traffic and avoid congestion.

The ban has already been lifted, prompting the authorities to come up with another systematic enforcement to continue the easy flow of traffic inside the market.

“Specially karon nga medyo arranged na ang Carbon gikan atong mga kausaban nga gihimo dira sa Carbon, so karon, mao na na sad ni instruction ni CD na they have to regulate sa mga trisikad and to include sa mga e-bike aron di sila makasamok para dili sila maka-cause og traffic para sa mga naninda ug mamalitay diha sa Carbon,” said Parilla.

This, however, is still under discussion.

At present, the additional police augmentation during the Holy Week observance has already been pulled out from the market.

Parilla however added that the regular police deployment from the Police Station 5 and 6 will remain to monitor the market premises. — GMR (FREEMAN)
