Pasil fish port remains closed to Bohol fishing boats

CEBU, Philippines — Fishing boats from Bohol still cannot dock at the Pasil fish port in Cebu City due to the ongoing construction of the fish market.

Cebu City Market Operations Division (MOD) head Irvin Cabales said that he cannot give yet the specific date as regards to the reopening of the operation of fishing boats from Bohol.

The city government is also yet to give a time frame for the completion of the construction.

“Naghisgut ta sa una nga March gyud unta ang ilang pagbalik apan naa pa man gud ang nagpadayon nga konstruksyon sa fish market, so dili madayon karong buwana ang pagdunggo og balik diha sa Pasil sa mangingisda gikan sa Bohol,” Cabales said.

The fish port was closed in mid last year when there were reported COVID-19 cases in the area until the city government decided to develop or redesign the facility.

It was a way also to secure individuals of the nearby Pasil fish market from the threats of the virus.

“Ang problema man gud kay naa pay ongoing construction and wala pa na-turnover ang bag-ong building,” Cabales added.

Cabales has been negotiating with the concerned agencies to allow Bohol fishing boats to dock at the Pasil fish port.

Though he said there is no shortage of fish supplies in the city markets as there are still supplies coming from other places like Bantayan Island.

Cabales believes that the reopening of the facility would help revive the industry in the fish port adding that the more supply the lesser the prices would be.

Prior to the pandemic, at least 20 fishing boats from Bohol delivering fishes at Pasil fish port per day. —GMR (FREEMAN)
