Notorious teen ‘burglar’ from Talisay City nabbed

CEBU, Philippines — A notorious burglar in Talisay City was arrested by the police in a hot pursuit operation Tuesday in the southern town of Samboan, Cebu.

Members of the Talisay Police Station apprehended 19-year-old Chardwen Catipay, a resident of Sitio Lower Mohon in Talisay, at around 11 p.m. in Sitio Tabunan, Barangay Tangbo.

The operation was hatched against the alleged burglar after he entered a house in Barangay Cansojong and stole six items, a laptop, a cellular phone, and a DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera, on March 15.

Talisay City Police chief Gerard Ace Pelare said the suspect was identified through a surveillance camera footage.

"Upon review of the CCTV footage, it revealed that the suspect was a male person, wearing black jacket, around 5’2 in height, skinny built, and fair complexion…The face of the suspect was recognizable through the CCTV," the police report read.

"The police team immediately created a tracker team to locate the suspect in places he is frequenting in Talisay and in neighboring areas,” it added.

Recovered from the suspect were a laptop, two cellphones, a canon camera, a watch and a flat iron.

Also, seized from Catipay were five sachets of shabu.

Catipay was brought to Samboan Police Station for booking procedures.

Based on police investigation, Pelare said, Catipay was behind the series of burglary incidents in Talisay City.

"It was also found out that he has committed the same crimes in Dalaguete and Samboan (towns in southern Cebu). Thus, his arrest will result in the solution of the spate of robbery incidents in these places,” read the police report.

Authorities said they will locate the burglary victims for the filing of charges against the suspect. —KQD (FREEMAN)
