Sambag 2 fire leaves 300 people homeless
CEBU, Philippines — At least 50 houses and business establishments were razed when a fire broke out in Barangay Sambag 2, Cebu City yesterday afternoon.
The fire department pegged the damage to structures and properties at P1.5 million.
The fire that struck a residential area in Sitio Kawayan at 2:53 p.m. left 100 families or 300 individuals homeless, authorities said.
No one was reported injured in the fire.
Senior Fire Officer 1 Novo Erana said the fire started at the house of a certain Natalia Fernandez.
He said they are looking at electrical fusion as the possible cause of the fire.
But this will have to be verified during their ongoing investigation, he said.
The alarm was reported at 2:53 p.m. and was raised to a second alarm.
It was placed under control by responding firefighters after 50 minutes. The fire was put out at 4:31 p.m.
It was the third fire incident in the city since Sunday.
The first incident was last Sunday when a fire gutted a furniture storage in Barangay Calamba. The structural damage was pegged at P2.5 million.
On Monday morning, at least houses were burned down by a fire that hit Sitio Club Kawayan in Barangay Mambaling.
The fire caused P150,000 in property damage, the fire department said. —KQD (FREEMAN)
