700 quarantine violators render community service
CEBU, Philippines — Around 700 violators of health protocols were made to render community service in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
Most of them violated the mandatory wearing of face masks in public places.
They opted to do community service in lieu of paying the fine of P1,000, said Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan.
Simultaneous usab kini nga gibuhat sa nagkalainlaing barangay sa atong dakbayan,” Chan said in his Facebook post.
The violators were made to clean the streets and to remove volume of garbage that clogged drainage systems.
The mayor hopes that they learned their lesson of not abiding by the government’s health protocols, such as wearing of face masks and face shields and observing social distancing.
He said people should instill discipline among themselves to help bring down the number of COVID-19 cases.
He said the city government is not after the fines collected from health violators as the city incurs more expenses if one gets COVID. — KQD (FREEMAN)
