Displaced informal workers get assistance from Bong Go

CEBU, Philippines — Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has continued to give assistance to Cebuano displaced workers in the informal sector as well as flood victims in the towns of Badian, Tuburan and Consolacion.

Go, through his office, has assisted 830 tour guides and other displaced workers in Badian.

He also gave assistance to 745 pedicab drivers and flood victims in Tuburan and 618 market vendors in Consolacion.

Earlier this week, the senator also assisted nearly a thousand fire victims in Cebu City.

Go’s team provided the beneficiaries with meals, food packs, vitamins, masks and face shields.

Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development also provided separate financial assistance to the said beneficiaries and the Department of Trade and Industry also conducted an assessment on potential beneficiaries for its livelihood program.

The National Housing Authority assessed the flood victims who will be granted the emergency housing assistance while the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority also profiled the beneficiaries who will undergo its Special Training for Employment Program.

Selected individuals likewise received pairs of shoes while others were given bicycles that will help them in their commute to work as public transportation remains limited amid the ongoing pandemic.

Others were provided computer tablets for their children to use in their classes under the new blended learning approach.

In the past months, Go has extended aid to Cebuanos from different cities and municipalities in the province, such as the hundreds of landslide victims in Toledo City, and more than a thousand displaced workers, tour guides and boatmen in Moalboal.

“Ginagawa ng gobyerno ang lahat para maiahon ang ating mga kababayan mula sa hirap na ating dinaranas. Magtiwala po tayo dahil kapakanan ninyo ang inuuna namin,” Go said in one of the video calls with the beneficiaries.

Go said that the poor and the vulnerable are the priority once the COVID-19 vaccine rollout begins.

For those who will be hospitalized, the senator urged the beneficiaries to come to Malasakit Centers to avail of medical assistance.

The Malasakit Centers in Cebu are located in Eversley Childs Sanitarium & General Hospital in Mandaue City, Saint Anthony Mother and Child Hospital and Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City, Talisay City District Hospital, and Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital.

The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop where the DSWD, Department of Health, PhilHealth, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office are housed under one roof.
