CEBU, Philippines — Quarantine passes will still be required for anyone going out of their homes during the New Year, says Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella.

Unlike during the last Christmas where quarantine passes were suspended, Labella said he has not ordered its suspension for the New Year.

He explained the reason why quarantine passes were suspended during Christmas was to allow the people to keep the tradition of attending Misa de Gallo.

The mayor said there is no more reason to suspend the quarantine passes because the city remains on community quarantine even during the holidays.

"Because we are on quarantine even if we are on holidays we are still on quarantine, so the basic rule is stay home," Labella said.

He urged the public to make it their “palihi” this year to stay at home on the New Year’s Day.

"Usa na, because of this new variant let’s keep ourselves, if possible, within the confine of our home than go out," Labella said.

Labella said the implementation of the quarantine passes is among the reasons why the city was able to flatten the curve, although the number of cases has slightly increased last Tuesday. — FPL (FREEMAN)
