Drug suspect killed in ‘shootout’
CEBU, Philippines — A ‘notorious’ drug suspect was killed while three others were arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by the elements of Mambaling Police Station in Sitio San Isidro, Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City Sunday dawn.
The authorities identified the suspect as certain Ramon Saraum, 32, a resident of Barangay Mabolo, who has been listed as street-level individual (SLI) of the said station.
Police Major Dindo Juanito Alaras, Mambaling Police Station chief, said Saraum was shot during the operation after he allegedly resisted arrest and fired at the operatives.
“Pag (conduct) nato og buy-bust kay paspas man kayo iyang mata, naka sense siya nga police ang iyang naka transact. Human gyud sa transaction nibunot og armas nya mao nato nga nahitabo na ang pinusilay," the police chief told reporters.
Alaras said Saraum was placed under surveillance for quite some time.
“Actually kini atong subject, taud-taod na nato ni na gi surveillance as time nga diri pa ta station 4, unya allegedly murag nilayas,” he said.
He said Saraum was also allegedly involved in several robbery and recent killing incidents.
“Kini sya kay known man gyud ni sya nga badlungon ug naa juy armas. In fact, ang mga patay diri atong previous weeks, natudlo gyud niya. However, wala lay mubarog as witness, so kani nga lugar kahadlokan jud sya,” he said.
During the buy-bust, one .38 caliber revolver loaded with six live ammunitions were recovered from Saraum.
Saraum’s alleged cohorts were also arrested. They are Mary Grace Nalzaro,30; Jeffrey Saraum,25; and Chris Ygot,24. — KQD (FREEMAN)
