CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has assured that no similar incident that will happen in the city following the killing done by a cop in Tarlac.

Police Lt. Colonel Wilbert Parilla, CCPO deputy city director for operations, said that the cops from CCPO have always been reminded to uphold maximum tolerance through the squadding program that would take care of their mental and spiritual health.

“At first they should always observe kanang gitawag nato ug maximum tolerance, and we should always bear in mind that we should always respect the rights of every individual ug dunay mga sayop,” said Parilla.

Parilla also said that CCPO is taking care of its personnel's mental and spiritual health through a so-called webinar Squad Weekly Interactive Meeting.

Last Friday they have reactivated their squadding program as ordered that was stopped during the pandemic. This squadding system will be composed by cops as members and a mentor from the religious sector.

This also includes a squad leaders from the police officers that will enable the cops to approach them should personal problems will arise and might affect their work.

“Ato na ning gibalik diri sa atoa sa CCPO ug sa uban pang mga police offices…weekly duna ni silay interactive meeting diin ang kada usa sa atong mga kapolisan maka-interact sila, makasulti sila unsa ilang mga problema even personal na problema or related sa ilang trabaho, aron sad sila ma-guided both spiritually and mentally,” Parilla said.

He added that the weekly squad meeting would help the cops to lean into the right mindset during their duties and performance. This would also help the cops in balancing their personal problems and their service.

Parilla furthers said the local cops should always be reminded not to resort to violence and use their service firearms unless threats to their lives are present.

A certain Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca surrendered to authorities Monday after he was caught on video shooting a 52-year old mother and her 25-year old son in Paniqui, Tarlac last Sunday.

The victims were identified as Sonya Gregorio and Frank Anthony Gregorio.

The victims and the suspect were neighbors who were caught into an argument that prompted the suspect to shoot them.

In Lapu-Lapu City, Mayor Junard Chan also condemned such killing and reminded his own police force to exercise self-control and tolerance.

He also urged them to continue in implementing peace and order in the city. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon, GMR (FREEMAN)
