Task force seeks entry of Talisay City jeepneys

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Jeepney Task Force has lobbied for the entry of Talisay City jeepneys into the city.

Councilor James Anthony Cuenco, who also sits as the task force chairman, said the task force recommended to Mayor Edgardo Labella to allow the traditional public utility jeepneys from Talisay to operate anew in the city.

“We already submitted a recommendation to his office yesterday for this purpose nga ang Talisay matagaan og permit to come to the city,” said Cuenco.

He said Talisay City is expected to submit an endorsement for its jeepney routes in Cebu City.

“Two routes only (until Taboan). This will be a breather in the Bulacao area. Kay makalahos na sa Cebu City,” said Cuenco,

Cuenco, however, said this is still subject for the approval of Labella.

Cuenco said once the mayor issues the Executive Order, jeepneys from Talisay City will be already allowed entry.

He added the city will not limit the number of Talisay City jeepneys that will be allowed to enter.

“Maayo man so far ang pagtuman sa protocols, wa man tay mga violations nga nakit-an, so as long as ma-preserve nato ang orderliness sa traffic, and ma-follow ang mga health protocols, that’s fine with us,” said Cuenco.

Cuenco also mentioned that they already coordinated with the Talisay City Traffic Office, so that they would be alerted as soon as the mayor gives his approval.

“I have been told nga they have done all the preparations na for the past weeks, so they are really ready,” he said.

The city’s Jeepney Task Force earlier decided to allow traditional public utility jeepneys from other local government units to enter Cebu City following months of absence owing to quarantine restrictions.

The decision, however, is recommendatory in character and would need the approval of Labella. — KQD (FREEMAN)
