CEBU, Philippines —  A man was arrested for possession of counterfeit money worth P2,500 in Cebu City Tuesday night.

Vicente Arquiza Breviescas, 48, was nabbed after he used a bogus bill to pay for goods in a market in Barangay Santo Niño.

Seized from him were fake peso bills—one P1,000 and three pieces of P500.

Police Captain Edgar Labe, Waterfront Police Station chief, said a vendor checked the bill and found out it was fake.

He said other angry vendors and bystanders then beaten Breviescas up for committing fraud before he was turned over to the police.

“Gi kuan (beaten) sa mga bystanders dira sa Carbon area pa katong nahibaw-an na sya nga siya maoy nagpalusot aning counterfeit money,” he said.

The police chief refused to disclose the source of the fake money pending an investigation and follow-up operation.

The station’s initial investigation revealed that Breviescas was also arrested in Lapu-Lapu City last February of this year for similar crime.

“Base sa among pag research naa sad ni siyay kaso didto sa Lapu-Lapu City Police Office nya naka piyansa siya mao gihapon nga violation nga fake money,” said Labe.

Breviescas will be facing the charges for violating Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code.  — KQD (FREEMAN)
