2 social workers get national award

CEBU, Philippines — Two social workers in Cebu have received a prestigious recognition from the Philippine Association of Social Workers Inc. during the 2020 PASWI National Virtual Convention held on November 26-28, 2020.

Cebu Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office head Marivic Garces was recognized as outstanding social worker for her efforts in effecting transformative programs for social welfare and development, her diligence and service to children in conflict with the law among others, as well as her leadership in the social work community.

Talisay City SWDO head Felipa Solana was also hailed as outstanding social worker for her inspiration and generosity that had influenced more social workers to serve with excellence and integrity encompassing the universal principles of social work. She personifies mission with the heart for social justice.

Garces thanked for the award and to the Lord for keeping them safe from this pandemic.

She also expressed her sincerest gratitude to Governor Gwendolyn Garcia for giving her the chance to steer the PSWDO for her three terms as the first lady governor of Cebu Province, and until now that she is back as governor.

Garces also thanked the Provincial Board members for their all-out support in terms of sponsoring and approving all resolutions pertaining to all PSWDO programs and projects and the cooperation of the mayors and most specifically the city and municipal social welfare officers.

“Sa tanang departments whom we have collaborated with, kining maong award para ni natong tanan,” Garces said.

Solana, on the other hand, has served 41 years as social worker while the 30 years were dedicated in Talisay City.

Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. said they are proud that from the city, the achievements of Solana were recognized in the national level.
