Go sends aid to boatmen in Moalboal
CEBU, Philippines — As the health and economic effects of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic continue to adversely impact the lives of Filipinos, at least 41 beneficiaries from Moalboal, Cebu have received assistance from Senator Christopher “Bong” Go.
The relief assistance was delivered Friday last week along with the help from other concerned government agencies to the identified beneficiary sector as part of the bayanihan efforts and whole-of-government approach to uplift the lives of various industries adversely affected by the pandemic.
“Alam kong mahirap ngayon ang panahon dahil sa nangyayari sa bansa ngunit kapit lang po tayo. Malalampasan natin ito kung magtutulungan tayo. Hindi po kayo pababayaan ng gobyernong ito,” Go said in a video call.
Composed of boatmen, the beneficiaries were given meals, food packs, masks, face shields, and vitamins. The distribution activity was held at Basdiot covered court while making sure necessary health protocols were strictly observed to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 and other diseases amid ongoing pandemic.
The Senator advised the boatmen to strictly follow health protocols to safeguard themselves from COVID-19 while the economy slowly reopens. He added that the government is committed to help workers like them from the agricultural and tourism sectors recover.
“Gamitin po ninyo ito dahil delikado pa po ang panahon. Mag-social distancing at maghugas po tayo ng kamay. Mayroon din pong vitamins, para pampalakas po ng inyong resistensya,” Go said.
Due to limited transportation and the need to commute to work, Go also gave away bicycles to selected recipients while others received tablets for their children’s use for online classes under the blended learning set up.
Go also urged beneficiaries to visit the nearest Malasakit Center located at Talisay District Hospital. According to the Senator, the Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop where it aims to help poor and indigent Filipinos for their medical needs.— PR (FREEMAN)
