Political officers’ league sets candidate criteria for 2022

Gregg M. Rubio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Political Officers League of the Philippines (POLPhil) will only support candidates who meet its criteria.

POLPhil, in its 2nd National General Assembly held Sunday at Luxent Hotel in Quezon City, resolved to throw support to candidates who met five criteria.

These include adherence to the principles enshrined in the Constitution, proven competence, integrity, track record, dependability, word of honor and commitment to work with PolPHil in its advocacies.

The group held its 2nd National Assembly with the theme: Rise Up Pilipinas! Sa Bagong Mundo, Makabagong Liderato Para sa Maunlad na Pilipino.

The assembly was presided over by its founding president, Vice Mayor Democrito “Aljun” Diamante of the Municipality of Tuburan, Cebu.  Also in attendance was POLPhil’s chairman emeritus Metro Manila Development Authority chairman Danilo Lim who delivered the keynote address to the attendees of some 30 individuals of socially distanced crowd and over 100 members who attended via zoom teleconferencing platform from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte also addressed the assembly through a video message.

In a resolution unanimously approved by the assembly, PolPHil emphasized to set a higher bar of standard for candidates who seek public office in the country.

Diamante stressed the need for leaders who understand and truly serve the marginalized.

Lim, for his part, sought for further participation of members and the society to address the rising challenges facing the country.

POLPhil is an organization of current and former chiefs of staff at various levels of government, development workers, advocates and nation builders who are determined to bring change to the course of local and national development through its POLPhil Political Institute, Enterprise Development Program and Good Governance Programs.

Another milestone the assembly hopes to achieve is to provide a selection framework for local and national leaders in the coming 2022 elections.

Collectively, POLPhil influences many social institutions, partners, networks and communities in the entire Philippines and hopes to use such influence to catalyze affirmative change in leadership and support the transformation of basic sectors. — (FREEMAN)
