2 families claim chopped body found in Talamban

CEBU, Philippines —  The police have conducted an autopsy to identify the chopped body of a woman found at the river of Mountain View, Sitio Kalubihan, Talamban, Cebu City last Saturday as two families claimed the body.

Talamban Police Station chief, Police Captain Jonathan Taneo, said they are coordinating with the Mandaue City police as other body parts were found in the area.

Taneo said the autopsy would determine if the body parts found in Talamban and in Mandaue City belong to the same person.

In Talamban, the torso including the breast area down to the stomach were found which was believed to be of a woman while a pair of arms and legs were found in Mandaue City in the evening of the same day.

As of yesterday, Taneo said two families showed up and claimed the body parts saying that they have a family member who went missing.

Taneo said they interviewed with the families for the details and to trace the whereabouts of their missing member.

He, however, is yet to give the details of the missing persons reported by the families.

The police are tracking the river where the body was found to see if there are remaining body parts.

Taneo added that they are not discounting the possibility that the body found could have been killed somewhere and was dumped into the river.

They are also checking if there are close circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area that could have recorded the dumping of the body.

Taneo further said that they are not discounting the possibility that the unknown perpetrator could have chopped the body parts to delay the identification and investigation of the crime.

At present, according to Taneo, they are considering the possibility of getting DNA samples for those who claimed the body parts to determine the identification. — GMR (FREEMAN)
