Mandaue fire victims get aid from Bong Go

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Almost 300 fire victims in two barangays in Mandaue City have received assistance from Senator Christopher “Bong” Go and other government agencies.

The fire victims, comprising 73 families with 283 individuals in barangays Labogon and Paknaan, have lost their houses to fire last October 9, 2020.

Go’s team, under strict health protocols, distributed financial assistance, meals, medicines, food packs, face masks and face shields.

The team also gave away bicycles to selected recipients to help them in their daily commute to work amid limited public transport option due to the imposition of the community quarantine measures.

Go said in a video message.

Also, representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development were present during the distribution of aid to provide additional financial assistance to the fire victims.

While personnel from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and National Housing Authority (NHA) were also present to assess and validate possible beneficiaries for the livelihood and housing assistance, respectively.

Go also told fire victims that once the COVID-19 vaccine is considered safe, ready and available, the government will prioritize and ensure access to the poor and the vulnerable sectors.

“Wag kayong mag-alala, kapag mayroon nang vaccine, uunahin namin kayo ni Presidente Duterte na mga mahihirap para makabalik na kayo sa inyong mga pamumuhay,” Go further said. — GMR (FREEMAN)
