Sinulog 2021 to have lower budget

Rowena D. Capistrano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Sinulog Festival 2021 should expect a lower budget compared to previous years, said Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama, also the chairman of the Sinulog Foundation Inc.

Rama explained that there will be fewer activities due to the coronavirus pandemic which means a lower budget.

He also stressed that the economy is not good so the city government is prudent in spending.

The city government had appropriated P35 million for the Sinulog Festival 2020.

The planned Sinulog 2021-related activities include the Sinulog sa SRP (South Road Properties), Sinulog sa Kabataan and Sinulog sa Dakbayan while the Sinulog sa Barangay is still being reviewed.

The virtual presentation of contingents is also being considered.

Despite lower budget, Rama said they will try their best not to reduce the prizes for the winning contingents.

With the planned virtual presentation, out-of-town contingents will no longer spend for their travel due to restrictions.

Rama assured the public that the city government will spend within their means for the Sinulog 2021 due to the economic situation of the city brought by the pandemic. — GMR (FREEMAN)
