City opens exit road for Barangay Hipodromo

Mary Ruth R. Malinao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City government yesterday conducted a road clearing operation in Barangay Hipodromo for the establishment of an exit access in the barangay.

Councilor Jerry Guardo said the establishment of exit road has been the clamor of the residents in the area.

Guardo is the City Council's Committee on Infrastructure chairman.

"For so many years, they've been asking and they've been waiting for this opportunity nga maabrihan na gyud ang exit roads kay naagian na ni'g dakong sunog diri. Unya, in fact dunay sakyanan, duha ka sakyanan, naapil kasunog kay di naman sila makagawas kay paghitabo sa sunog, ang mosud ang mga firetruck na man. So natrap tanang sakyanan," said Guardo.

The activity is in line with the program of the city government in looking for road openings to ensure safety of residents.

"This is part sa programa sa atong mayor sa pagpangabli og mga agianan kay nakita man gud sa atong mayor nga importante kaayo nga adunay mga dalan ang atong mga interior nga bahin nga mga kabarangayan, diin kung dunay mga katalagman ug dunay mga emergency, makasud dayon ang atong mga emergency vehicles," said Councilor Dave Tumulak.

Tumulak, Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management chairman, said the opening of roads is for the safety and accessibility of the residents.

Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification and Enhancement (PROBE) Team Head Raquel Arce said less than 10 structures made of light materials were cleared.

Arce said a lot can benefit from the clearing operation conducted in the barangay.

Barangay Captain Ruperto Bacolod, for his part, said the road clearing operation is also needed for them to start with their road concreting project with a budget of P4 million.

No residents were displaced due to the operation. — GAN (FREEMAN)
