CEBU, Philippines —  Asturias, Cebu Mayor Jose Antonio "Anto" Pintor has tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), becoming the sixth mayor from Cebu province infected with the virus.

The announcement was posted yesterday on the official Facebook page of the town’s Public Information Office (PIO).

“Karong adlawa, among subo nga ipahibalo kaninyo nga ang atoang amahan sa lungsod sa Asturias, si Mayor Anto Pintor, mao na gayud ang nagpositibo sa maong sakit,” read the post of Asturias PIO.

The mayor and his wife underwent a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing on August 19 after exhibiting flu-like symptoms.

The results of the swab test came out the following day.

The mayor’s wife, fortunately, was found negative for the virus.

According to the PIO, the mayor is doing well in quarantine.

“Ang atong mayor anaa pud karon sa maayo’ng kahimtang ug padayon nga gi-isolate sa tambalanan for proper monitoring,” the post added.

Pintor immediately ordered the disinfection of the entire municipal hall and his residence to prevent the further spread of the virus.

Contact tracing and isolation of people the mayor had close and direct contacts with have also started.

Last June, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan was the first local chief executive in Cebu infected with COVID-19.

Other mayors who contracted COVID-19 were Sun Shimura of Daanbantayan, Marlon Garcia of Barili, and Danilo Diamante of Tuburan.
