NBI-7 gets new director

Le Phyllis F. Antojado-Orillaneda - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Central Visayas is now headed by lawyer Rennan Augustus Oliva.

Oliva, former director of the NBI District Office in Bohol, assumed office after a simple turn over ceremony last Monday. He replaced lawyer Tomas Enrile who is now assigned at the director’s office in Manila.

Oliva, an agent for 25 years, rose from the ranks and was among the top caliber investigators of the bureau in the region. He used to be a member of the now defunct Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force (PAOCTF) in the Visayas.

It was during Oliva tour of duty in Bohol that controversial police officer Adonis Dumpit was killed in 2018 during anti-drug operation. Oliva’s team and the Regional Intelligence Division of Police Regional Office-7 conducted a joint buy-bust operation against Dumpit resulting in a shootout that killed the police officer.

Oliva said his new assignment is part of the NBI’s regular reshuffling of officers. As the new director of NBI-7, Oliva urged the public to report unscrupulous individuals taking advantage of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Oliva said they have been receiving reports about people selling overpriced personal protective equipment. /FPL (FREEMAN)
