Cebu City logs 2nd highest daily rise in COVID deaths
It logged 17 deaths linked to COVID-19 yesterday, the second highest number of fatalities the city has experienced in a single day since lockdown was imposed in March. On June 25, the city reported record-high 19 COVID deaths.

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City has recorded around 20 deaths for the second day in a row.

It logged 17 deaths linked to COVID-19 yesterday, the second highest number of fatalities the city has experienced in a single day since lockdown was imposed in March. On June 25, the city reported record-high 19 COVID deaths.

This brings the total deaths to 136.

Cebu City Health Department (CCHD) reported that two of the fatalities were from Barangay Camputhaw.

The rest of the deaths came from Barangays San Nicolas, Bulacao, Duljo Fatima, Ermita, Guadalupe, Kalunasan, Kinasang-an, Lahug, Mabolo, Pahina, Punta Princesa, San Antonio, Sto. Nino, Suba, and Tejero, each with one case.

Also, the city recorded 95 new cases.

Seven of the new cases are from Barangay Basak San Nicolas, while six cases come from Barangay Capitol Site.

Barangays Guadalupe, Punta Princesa and Talamban also reported five cases each.

Others are from Barangays Bario Luz, Camputhaw, Tisa and Labangon, each with four cases.

Barangays Basak Pardo, Pardo, Parian, Pit-os, Busay, Pahina Central, and Sambag 1 also recorded three cases each, while two cases each were reported from Barangays Apas, Day-as, Banilad, Kalunasan, Lahug, Quiot, Sambag II, Sto. Niño, and T. Padilla.

Barangays Banawa, Binaliw, Calamba, Cogon Ramos, Hipodromo, Inayawan, Kamagayan, Kasambagan, Lorega, Mabolo, Suba, and Tejero got one case each.

These past six days, the city has been reporting two-digit number of cases daily after almost two weeks of daily cases that are more than the hundred mark.

June 16 holds the record for most daily infections at 203 cases.

The additional cases bring the city’s total number of infections to 4,702, of which the active cases are 2,197.

On the other hand, the health department announced 48 recoveries yesterday, making the total recoveries to 2,369 so far.

The lab-negative patients were from Barangay Sambag II, 34; Barangay Tejero, nine; Barangay Lahug, three; and Barangays Busay and Talamban with one recovery each.  KQD (FREEMAN)
