CEBU, Philippines — To serve as public transportation during general community quarantine (GCQ), 190 buses will be allowed to operate in the Province of Cebu.

This includes 93 north-bound buses, 92 south-bound buses and five buses headed west.

According to a report by Sugbo News, the official news outlet of the Capitol PIO, this was decided between the Cebu Provincial Government and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-7.

In order for the buses to operate, the Province of Cebu will be issuing Provincial Public Utility Passes (PPUP).

The routes to be followed for trips to the north of the province will be from Consolacion to Tabuelan, Tuburan, Bogo City, Maya in Daanbantayan, Lambusan in San Remigio via Hagnaya and the Bantayan Island.

For trips to the south, it will start from Talisay City to Samboan, Balamban, Pinamungajan, Asturias, Barili, Carcar, Dumanjug and Sibonga.

A temporary terminal has been set up at StarMall in Consolacion and at Lantaw Restaurant in Talisay.

Meanwhile, 55 taxi units have also been issued PPUPs to ferry passengers in Consolacion, Compostela and Danao City.

In a separate news release by Sugbo News, it was made clear that only three passengers will be allowed per taxi unit as opposed to the normal four-passenger cap.

Strict social distancing and minimum sanitary requirements will be observed for buses and taxis.

The province, as announced by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque during a virtual press briefing yesterday, will remain under GCQ from June 1 to June 15.

It was first placed under GCQ last May 16. Initially, the GCQ was projected to last until May 31.  GAN (FREEMAN)
