DepEd: Enroll online only, or call schools

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — There will be no physical setup when the enrollment for the next school year goes full blast starting June 1 as students or their parents will only enroll online or through telephone.

In fact, online enrollment has already started ahead of the DepEd’s Central Office announcement, DepEd-Cebu City Schools Superintendent Dr. Rhea Mar Angtud to The Freeman.

To enroll online, one can access the link provided by DepEd-Cebu City - https://depedcebucity.com/. Students and or their parents can also call the assigned teachers to assist them in the enrollment.

Others may also contact DepEd-Cebu City’s hotline 032-2551516 so they can be provided a number of their school or principals to be contacted for enrollment.

Earlier, Mayor Edgardo Labella’s spokesman and city legal officer Rey Gealon was reported as saying the city government will assist public schools in the enrollment by assigning policemen to ensure that social distancing will be observed.

However, Angtud made it clear that there will be no face-to-face or physical enrollment.

“Wala gyud tay gi-require muadto sa eskwelahan kay ang atong enrollment online ug on-call raman,” clarified Angtud.

There are 69 public elementary schools, 57 public high schools plus under Cebu City division and doing a physical enrollment may be unsafe amid the rising cases of COVID-19.

Cebu City Public School Teachers’ Association president Remus Marinas also shared that they have already started assisting students or their parents who have no internet access.

“Ang mga maestra nay mutabang sa mga bata or ilang ginikanan sa pag-enroll.Kung kinsay duol nila adto sila didto or ang mga ginikanan bay muadto sa maestra. In my case, I have set my pc outside para kung kunsay magpa-enroll pwede ra sila mu-access sa site,” said Marinas.

According to Marinas, Angtud even said that no teachers are allowed to report to their schools on June 1 yet, especially those whose schools are being used as barangay isolation center (BIC).

“Ang instructions gyud sa amoa kay back to work na mi on June 1, but dipa mi paadtoon sa schools labi na tong mga gihimong isolation centers na eskwelan.Di musugot si maam(Angtud) na di pa madisiffect and ma check sa DOH(Department of Health) na okay na ang school magamit namo,” said Marinas.

Even schools that have not been utilized as BICs will also go on with the online enrollment.

Cebu City will be under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from June 1 to June 15.  LPM (FREEMAN)
