City logs more recoveries than new COVID-19 cases

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City has recorded more recoveries than new COVID-19 positive cases yesterday.

Mayor Edgardo Labella announced that 24 patients recovered from the dreaded respiratory illness bringing the total number of recoveries to 102 as of May 17.

Of the 24 recovered cases, 23 are from Barangay Luz while the other one is from Barangay Pardo. Labella said these patients were placed on isolation after testing positive for COVID-19. Most of them are from Sitio Zapatera in Barangay Luz. As of yesterday, Luz has already a total of 99 recoveries.

On the other hand, the City Health Department (CHD) announced 21 more cases. Most of the new cases are from Barangay Sawang Calero (12), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) male dormitory (6), and three from Sitio Negative in Barangay Carreta.

The additional cases have increased to 1,740 the total number of persons infected with COVID-19 in the city.

The CHD and the Department of Health are closely monitoring the patients inside the Barangay Isolation Center and also those who are isolated at home.

The city government’s BIC already has a bed capacity of almost 2,000 and are ready to accommodate new asymptomatic patients.

Labella said the city is now evaluating the situations in Sitio Callejon, Barangay Labangon and Sitio Zapatera in Barangay Luz for possible lifting of the lockdown after reports of new recoveries.

Recently, Labella lifted the lockdown in Sitio Cabajar in Barangay Guadalupe and Sitio Sto. Niño, A. Lopez in Barangay Labangon.  FPL (FREEMAN)
