CEBU, Philippines — Government and private companies have donated food packs and personal protective equipment (PPE) to some residents and workers in Cebu.

The 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) of Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) and the Pardo Police Station in Cebu City initiated relief operations in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

PMFC distributed food packs to 900 families in the upland barangays of Bangkito and Tomugpa in Tuburan town, and Barangay Sunog in Balamban town, both in midwest Cebu.

Each food pack contains three kilos of rice, four canned goods, and four instant noodles.

In a Facebook post, PFMC said the distribution of food packs was part of the police’s “Adopt a Family Program” under the “Bayanihan To Heal As One Act.”

Also, Pardo Police Station distributed yesterday food packs—canned goods, rice and noodles—to around 200 families in Sitio Cabangcalan 1, Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City.

Police Major John Kareen Escober, the station chief, said it was their 10th distribution.

Meanwhile, the company operating the waste disposal facility in Barangay Binaliw in Cebu City and the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) 7 have donated personal protective equipment to Consolacion town and Cebu City for the sanitation workers.

ARN Central Waste Management Inc. and EMB donated 100 pieces of coverall and 100 pairs or 200 pieces of safety gloves, all worth P130,440.

“Our sanitation workers need protection especially during this coronavirus disease or COVID-19 health pandemic,” said ARN Central president and executive director Sherwin Santos.

Consolacion Mayor Joannes Alegado and Atty. John Jigu Dacua of the Cebu City Department of Public Service (DPS) received the donations.

The donation of PPE for the use of garbage collectors is pursuant to Republic Act No. 11469, otherwise known as the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, and the bureau’s continuous pursuit to protect all garbage collectors in the middle of this global crisis, said EMB-7.  KQD (FREEMAN)
