Lapu-Lapu City: Mother separated from 2-year-old baby
CEBU, Philippines — A two-year-old child in Lapu-Lapu City was separated from her mother, who was among the five confirmed the other day to have the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).
"Our experience with LLC-018 was heart breaking. We have to separate the mother from her two-year-old daughter to keep the baby from the killer virus," said Nagiel Bañacia in his Facebook post.
Bañacia, head of Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said LLC-018 is the 18th person in the city infected with COVID-19 and is from Sitio Marbeach in Barangay Marigondon.
"The cry of the baby and her shout to be with her mom was very disturbing for us," said Bañacia with hashtag #WeAreSorry and #WeHaveToDoOurJob to Save your lives (Baby & Mother),” the post read.
The mother (patient no.18) was among the five confirmed COVID-19 cases in Lapu-Lapu City the other day.
The four others were all women with no symptoms of the disease and come from Sitio Bombshell in Barangay Babag, two from Barangay Looc and Sacred Heart Village in Barangay Gun-ob.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan said that the barangays where these victims are located were already disinfected and that the city has conducted contact tracing.
"Sa dihang atong nadawat ang resulta sa lima ka bag-ong nag positibo sa COVID-19 sa atong syudad, daling naka-responde ang mga sakop sa atong DRRMO para magpahigayon og disinfection ug contact tracing aron masigurong dili mokatag ang kagaw sa mga kasilinganan. Tabangi kami nga dili na mokatag ang maong virus pinaagi sa paglikay sa pag gawas sa inyong mga panimalay," the mayor said in his Facebook post.
Contract Tracing
Meanwhile, following the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) Resolution No. 25, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is directing local government units nationwide to focus on contact tracing of possible carriers of COVID-19.
DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año said that the main focus for LGUs shall be the DITR steps: to Detect, Isolate, Treat, and Reintegrate the carriers in accordance with the National Strategy to Defeat Covid-19 of the IATF and NTF Covid-19.
“With the absence of the cure and the vaccine against COVID-19 for now, the fight against this virus is in contact tracing. It is urgent that LGUs identify the hosts or carriers of COVID-19 in every locality to prevent further spread of this deadly virus,” Año said, in a statement.
He added that all LGUs are advised to increase the number of Contact Tracing Teams (CTTs) to conduct contact tracing for all persons with known exposure to COVID-19 patients.
These teams will also monitor the status of suspect and probable COVID-19 cases, family members with known contact to a confirmed case to mitigate possibility of contagion. GAN (FREEMAN)
