CPPO cops get P500 thousand insurance from Capitol

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia is giving P500,000 accidental insurance to all members of the Cebu Provincial Police Office manning checkpoints at the borders, making sure that the towns and component cities of the province are protected from the dreaded coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

During her daily report to the Cebuanos on COVID-19, Garcia said all the sacrifices will be rewarded. 

“Karon pa lang, akong e-cover ang tanan nato nga PNP personnel with the group accidental insurance sa GSIS, up to P500,000 matag usa,” Garcia said.

“Grabe kaayo ning ilang sakripisyo, busa, alang sa pagpakita ug pagbalor o appreciation sa Province of Cebu sa ilang tabang karon to enforce strict boarder control we will be ensuring with GSIS all of our PNP personnel under the Cebu Provincial Police Office,” she added.

 Garcia also mentioned that a separate help will be given to the force multipliers helping man the checkpoints and implement the curfew.

The governor said she is expecting an “exodus” of Cebu City residents to the different towns of the province because of the soaring number of cases in the city. As of yesterday, the Department of Health reported 27 new positive COVID-19 cases in Cebu---24 in Cebu City and three in Lapu-Lapu.

Garcia said the police personnel will play a very important role in making sure that the province is protected. According to Garcia, even without public transportation, others are trying to go away via delivery and cargo trucks and even ambulances.

Garcia ordered that all delivery vans and ambulances will have to undergo a thorough inspection. She warned that violators will face the consequences.

“Ang akong nasabtan, mura’g naa nay naghinay-hinay na ug exodus. Manggawas na gikan sa Cebu City tungod niining pagkalit og saka sa number of positive cases. Kani ra bang uban manago, manago sa mga delivery vans, manago sa cargo vehicles, ug gani hasta pa sa mga ambulansya. Kung dunay kaila sa driver, maghatud diri, inig balik didto sa mga lungsod, dili ra driver ra ug nurse ang naa ug kinsa pay laing sakay, dunay uban na ikarga,” said Garcia.

Garcia said she received reports that some are paying P200 to P500 for a ride on these exempted vehicles.
