Ex-convict shot dead
CEBU, Philippines — An ex-convict from Mandaue City was shot by unidentified men in motorcycle last Saturday in Barangay Poblacion Occidental, Consolacion, Cebu.
The victim is identified as Reynaldo Casipong Gaviola, 45, a native of Pulpogan, Consolacion, Cebu.
Police Staff Sergeant Rhexter Armenion, the desk officer on-duty of the Consolacion Police Station, said Gaviola was temporarily staying at Sto. Rosario, Mandaue City with his live-in partner.
Armenion said Gaviola was on-board on his motorcyle along the national road at around 8 p.m. and was travelling towards the South when suddenly men in motorcycle followed him.
Upon reaching Barangay Poblacion Occidental, the backrider reportedly pulled out an unknown firearm and shot the victim several times.
Gaviola died on the spot.
In their initial investigation, the authorities found out that the victim was previously arrested for violation of R.A. 9165 last 2008 and was released through a plea bargaining agreement last December 2019.
Hi convicted status is among the motives the Consolacion Police Station are looking into in their investigation.
“Nag-follow-up pa ang investigator ani. Wala pa silay na-gather na mga bag-ong information (on the other motives),” Armenion said.
Found in the crime scene were 14 shells and two deformed slugs of unknown caliber. GAN (FREEMAN)
