Baragays urged: Create sitio force multipliers

Mary Ruth R. Malinao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Councilor David Tumulak has encouraged all the barangays to organize their own Sitio Peace Auxiliary (SPA) to help maintain peace and order in their respective areas.

Tumulak said SPA should comprise willing and able men residents who can guard their sitio.

“Kay gikinahanglan kaayo kini nga suporta sa atong kapolisan ug ingon man sa atong mga barangay tanod,” said Tumulak.

(The police and the barangay tanods need this support very much)

“We have to admit nga kuwang ta diha sa atoang mga kabarangayan,” he added.

The councilor said that the barangay officials should be informed before the sitio leaders form their auxiliary group. The group will be under the supervision of the chief of police of the police station that has jurisdiction over the barangay.

For the initiative to work, members of all SPA groups should come from their own sitio.

“Kay sila may mas labaw nga nakaila kung kinsa ning mosud ug guwa sa ilahang sitio,” said Tumulak.

(Because they know better who are those people coming in and out of their sitio)

“Ang ilahang tuyo lang gyud is pagbantay sa ilahang sitio nga way makasulod, way makagawas nga wa sila makaila,” he added.

SPA members will be asked to patrol their sitio within a certain number of hours. They can also help barangay officials monitor who among the residents are suffering from infectious diseases.

“Nagdasig ta sa mga sibilyan pagtabang, pagmentinar sa kahusay ug kalinaw sa atoang komunidad,” he said.
