Spaces for coronavirus frontliners in Cebu City

Mary Ruth R. Malinao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella announced yesterday that private establishments in the city have offered spaces for frontliners to stay at while the city is under enhanced community quarantine.

Labella said at least 40 rooms are already available to house frontliners who are sometimes being discriminated against due to their exposure to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients.

"I'm optimistic that many are still coming up with their offer to house sa atong mga tabangonon jud kaayo nga mga frontliners nga gi-discriminate na hinoon imbis hatagan nato sa atong dakong pagsabot, pagbati, pagpangga, ug pag-protect, nahimo na hinoong biktima sa ubang mga wa gyud kasabot kun unsa kadako kining problemang atong giatubang," Labella said.

He said frontliners who would want to avail of the accommodation can contact City Administrator Floro Casas.

The city was placed under a state of ECQ starting midday Saturday, March 28, until midday April 28, “or unless sooner lifted or withdrawn.”

"Atong nakita nga medyo effective ang atong pag-implement dinhi sa Dakbayan sa Sugbo sa atong enhanced community quarantine... This is just 50 percent of the solution of the problem. There's another 50 percent nga atong pagahimoon," Labella said.

He said the other 50 percent is the implementation of monitoring and surveillance in barangays so that they will have the data required to solve the problem brought about by COVID-19.

Meanwhile, City Health Officer Daisy Villa said they are already conducting contact tracing in connection to the 20 identified COVID-19 positive cases in the city.

Villa said that of the 20, three have died and one has recovered.

She said they identified five team leaders to do the contact tracing. There are five health areas- one each for the north, south, east, west, and central.

This is in coordination with the identified five team leaders of the Cebu City Police Office.

She added that consultation at the cluster clinics are being continued.  JMO (FREEMAN)
