Bus, van drivers to face charges

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The authorities are to set file criminal charges against the two drivers of the vehicles that collided last Friday in Compostela, Cebu that left four persons dead and four others injured.

Compostela Police Station Chief, Police Captain Vincent Zozobrado, told The FREEMAN that they will be filling the charge of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Multiple Homicide and Damage to Property and Reckless Imprudence Resulting in multiple Physical Injuries against the Ceres bus driver, Jerry Lubon, 32, and the HI-Ace van driver, Patrick Niel Tulo.

“Ugma probably mo-file na mi ug case kung motunga ang representative sa mga namatay,” Zozobrado said.

He said that Tulo is still on hospital arrest and refuses to air his side about the incident.

“So far wala sya mo-estorya kay sige siya wala tungod siguro sa kasakit, ug di man tungod sa kasakit, basin nag-problema sad siya kay kabalo siyang naa siyay kasong atubangon,” Zozobrado said.

He added that in their investigation, they have found out that both of the drivers were recklessly driving.

Since they cannot determine who was at fault and since the Ceres driver’s camp refused to give the copy of the dash cam, they will file the case against both of them and will let the court decide their fate.

As to the information that surfaced that Tulo was also involved in a vehicular accident last year in Catmon where he was allegedly also the driver, the police said that they are yet to validate it since they are still in the process of collating the information from the Catmon Police Station.

The Ceres bus and the Hi-Ace van were travelling in opposite direction when both the vehicles suddenly collided upon reaching Sitio Ipil-Ipil, Barangay Estaca, Compostela, Cebu.  GAN (FREEMAN)
