Cop killed in ambush

CEBU, Philippines — A cop was ambushed by unidentified assailant early dawn of Sunday along the National Highway of Barangay Bugas, Badian, Cebu.

The victim was identified as Police Corporal Vincent delos Reyes Alboradula, 37, assigned at the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) and a resident of Moalboal, Cebu.

Police Senior Master Sargent Melvin Collados, said Alboradula was ambushed at around 2:30 a.m. when he was travelling towards the south onboard his motorcycle from the office of the PMFC where he was assigned.

Based on their initial investigation, case investigator Police Corporal Marlou Sentillas said that they have found 10 visible gunshot wounds at the head of the victim leading them to believe that the suspect may probably bore a deep grudge against the victim.

He, however, added that they are now eyeing several angles and motives behind the murder.

Sentillas added they have recovered 10 empty shells of .45 caliber at the crime scene, backing their initial investigation that the murder might be because of personal grudge.

“Sa pagkakaron naa tay daghang angle nga gitan-aw, like sa iyang trabaho mao na karon atong gisubay.  Mao nay usa sa atong gitan-aw na motive na possible nga dako ug kalagot ang suspect sa victim kay iya man gyud gisiguro at the same time ang iyang igo is groupings,” he said.

At present, the authorities are yet to determine the number and the identity of the assailants as they are still in the process of retrieving the CCTV cameras located around the area.

Sentillas said they have not found any witnesses to the incident.

Authorities are now also tracing and checking the background of the victim to determine additional leads to the investigation.

Sentillas also said that they have already talked to the victim’s family who admitted that the victim has received death threats in relation to his job as s policeman.  GAN (FREEMAN)
