CCTO, DPS urged: Clean traffic, street signage
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera has requested the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) to conduct flushing and clearing operations of all traffic signs and street signage in the city.
Garganera made the request after he personally noticed that several traffic signs and street names had been defaced, destroyed, and inconspicuously installed.
“Traffic signs are critical elements of the streets because they communicate the rules, warnings, guidance, and other highway information that drivers need to safely and efficiently navigate roads and streets,” read Garganera’s resolution which the City Council approved last week.
According to Garganera, well-maintained signs are imperative as they help drivers and commuters observe and follow proper traffic rules and regulations. He said street name signs are used to identify roads and are often found posted at intersections that are identifying each of the crossing streets.
As stated in the resolution, CCTO is tasked to implement and enforce traffic laws in order to maintain road users’ discipline in the city. Garganera wants the Department of Public Services (DPS) to assist the CCTO in the said operation as part of its mandate. FPL (FREEMAN)
