CTU extension campus to rise in Balamban

Lorraine L. Ecarma - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Another Cebu Technological University (CTU) campus is set to rise in Barangay Kantuod, Balamban town in midwest Cebu.

Sugbo News, the official news site of the Cebu Provincial Public Information Office (PIO), reported that last February 14, siblings Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and 3rd District Representative Pablo John “PJ” Garcia spent their Valentine’s day leading groundbreaking ceremonies for various infrastructure projects in Balamban.

The P38 million two-storey CTU building, which is set to rise on a 1.5-hectare property within the year, is among the projects.

The school building is the first phase of the infrastructure project.

The report further said the initial P25 million budget for the school building was pushed to be included in the national budget by the governor back in her stint as third district congresswoman.

On top of that, P12 million was then added from the province’s coffers for the construction of the building upon Garcia’s assumption in office as governor. This was reportedly included in the supplemental budget approved for the year 2019 under her term.

In the same ceremony, PJ also revealed that the first building will immediately be followed by the construction of the second building within the year.

Phase two of the project or the construction of the second school building will cost P25 million. This budget was proposed by PJ upon his assumption in Congress.

The congressman also added that he is looking into securing funds for an additional three-storey building.

The governor, for her part, also vowed to allocate public funds for the construction of a perimeter fence in the satellite campus.  KQD (FREEMAN)
