CEBU, Philippines — Two people died in two separate road accidents in Cebu since Tuesday night.

A motorist was declared dead on arrival after an accident along the northbound lane of the South Road Properties Bridge, Barangay Sawang Calero, Cebu City last Tuesday night.

The fatality was identified as Gerardo De Jesus Mendoza, 53, a resident of Danao, Cebu.

Based on the investigation of Patrolman Salvador Gabasa Jr., traffic investigator of the San Nicolas Police Station, both vehicles were travelling on the same direction, heading towards Plaza Independencia area.

The other vehicle, an Isuzu truck, was driven by Allan Alviso Buhat, 28, married, a resident of Maigang, Barili, Cebu.

In the investigation, Buhat allegedly said that Mendoza, who was driving a motorcycle, overtook at the right side of Buhat’s truck but the victim lost control and fell to the ground.

Responding ambulance hurriedly transported the rider to the Cebu City Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician due to injuries he sustained on the different parts of his body.

Police Staff Sergeant Merlo Mercader of the Traffic Police Group of the Cebu City Police Office arrested Buhat, who was then turned over to the San Nicolas Police Station.

A complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide will be filed against Buhat.

DALAGUETE ACCIDENT

Meanwhile, another person was found dead after he accidentally fell from a moving truck in Dalaguete, Cebu.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Noeh Rosales said the six-wheeler truck was carrying heavy steel bars.

“Pag liko sa truck paingon sa sharp curve, na bugto ang higot nga nag pugong ug nagkupot sa mga steel bars,” Rosales told The FREEMAN in a phone interview.

Rosales added that the truck boy, Jonnel Sandoval, 23, married and a resident of Dalaguete, was at the back of the truck where the steel bars were placed.  Sandoval jumped from the truck as the steel bars started to fall to avoid the bars from hitting him.

The truck went down along with the steel bars and hit Sandoval that allegedly caused his death.

Sandoval’s body was sent to the St. Louise Memorial Hospital at Dalaguete.

Rosales added that the incident was an accident and no one will be held accountable. Karmella Ann Colina, UV Intern, GAN (FREEMAN)
