Capitol to give P5M aid to Batangas

Lorraine L. Ecarma - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Province of Cebu will be extending P5M financial aid to the Province of Batangas due to the effects of the eruption of Taal Volcano.

In a press conference yesterday, January 27, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said she will discuss with the members of the Provincial Board the needed resolution.

"To show solidarity in times of difficulty with a fellow province of the Philippines," she said.

The governor also said that this is especially because she is good friends with Congresswoman Vilma Santos Recto who has been her colleague in the 16th and 17th Congresses.

The resolution, Garcia said, will be passed next week by the Provincial Board. Garcia added that the cash aid will either be delivered by Vice Governor Hilario Davide III or any member of the Provincial Board.

Recently, Cebu City also extended P5M cash assistance to the ash-ravaged Province of Batangas. Last January 12, Mount Taal erupted affecting about 90,000 individuals.

While many residents have started to return to their individual homes, their main sources of livelihood have been greatly affected by the ashfall. This includes the fishing and the farming industry. (FREEMAN)
