CEBU, Philippines — A prize awaits the most accommodating local government unit for the northern leg of Suroy-suroy Sugbo.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said there will be a prize for the town voted the most accommodating by participating guests in the caravan.

“We will be giving an appreciation for the best LGU. But, dili kami mo-grade. It will be tourists,” she said.

The guests will be made to rate each city and municipality they visit from a given criteria. LGUs will be rated based on the cultural presentations, food, etc. However, the governor said she is yet to determine how much prize will be given.

Garcia said this has been done before in previous Suroy-suroy caravans to encourage local government units to do their best in showcasing the endemic culture in their towns.

She explained that they did not include the Southern Heritage Trail yet since it was a relaunching and they did not know what to expect from the municipalities and towns after a brief hiatus.

Garcia said she is also ecstatic by the overwhelming number of participants that have signed up for the Northern Escapade on January 22 to 24.

“If we were limited by the rooms, the estimate is we could have filled eight to ten buses,” she said.

The Northern Escapade will accommodate 305 people or six buses of tourists. This is a significant increase from the three buses of the Southern Heritage Trail. The Province of Cebu will again partner with Silver Line Bus Service for Suroy-suroy sa Sugbo.  FPL (FREEMAN)
