Voter’s registration resumes on Jan. 20

CEBU, Philippines —  Following the postponement of the May 2020 barangay elections, the voter’s registration is set to resume on January 20.

In statement, James Jimenez, Director of the Education and Information Department of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), said those who have not registered to vote for the local and national elections may now do so.

Based on Comelec Resolution No. 10635, the registration period will be from Mondays to Saturdays. It will last until September.

The registration will not be held during holidays like Maundy Thursday and Holy Friday on April 9 and 10, 2020; Christmas on December 2, 2020; and Maundy Thursday and Holy Friday on April 1 and 2, 2021.

Among the services in the resumption of the voter’s registration are the applications for registration, transfer of registration records, change/ correction of entries in the registration record, reactivation of registration record and reinstatement of name in the list of voters.

Aside from this, Persons with Disabilities (PWD), Senior Citizens and indigenous peoples may also update their information.

To avail of these services, residents must proceed to the Office of the Election Officer located at their respective city/ municipality hall.

To be eligible to vote, one must be at least 18 years old on or before the election day, is a resident of the Philippines for at least one year and has been residing, for at least six months on or prior to the election day, in the area where one intended to vote.  LPM (FREEMAN)
