CEBU, Philippines —  A 50-year-old woman died after being dragged under an armored car just a few meters from the pedestrian lane along Colon Street in Cebu City on Monday evening.

She was identified as Fatima Lumabao, a native of Marawi City in Mindanao.

According to Police Corporal Jesse Olano, investigator at the Waterfront Police Station, the armored car driven by Ricardo Sabellano Jr.  was traversing Colon when Lumabao suddenly crossed the street.

Sabellano was unable to notice the victim due to the limited view from inside the car.

Olano said that the spot where Lumabao crossed was only a few meters away from the pedestrian lane.

The victim was dragged underneath the vehicle, which resulted to severe injuries.

Police said that she later succumbed to cardiac arrest at the hospital.

At the police station, Sabellano expressed his regret over the incident and asked forgiveness from the victim’s family for what had happened.

Sabellano also said he is hoping that Lumabao’s family will be amenable to an amicable settlement.

His camp has promised financial assistance to the family, although the amount remained uncertain.

Meanwhile, police contacted the family of Lumabao and the latter was reportedly surprised to learn that Lumabao was in Cebu when she allegedly informed her children she would be in Manila.

Police are currently waiting for the family members to come over to Cebu City to ascertain the next steps they would take after the unfortunate incident.   KQD (FREEMAN)
