CEBU, Philippines —  Four days before New Year, a warehouse used to store firecrackers and other pyro products was reduced to ashes after it caught fire Saturday afternoon in Purok Kapayas, Barangay Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City.

Fire investigators received the alarm at 2:24 p.m. and raised it to third alarm at 2:30 p.m. It was declared under control at 3 p.m. and out at 4:30 p.m.

The fire was believed to have started in the house of a certain James Berdin where the storage room for firecrackers was located.

As this article was written yesterday, investigators were still in the area to gather all details about the fire, including its exact cause.

Also to be checked is whether the operation of the storage room is authorized.

Fire Officer 1 Mildred Villaban, desk operator, told The FREEMAN that the fire left an estimated P160,000 in damages.

Villaban reported that the second floor of Berdin’s house where the warehouse was situated was completely destroyed.

Aside from damage to property, no one was reported hurt from the incident. JMD (FREEMAN)
