Garcia supports law moving SK, barangay polls
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia has thrown her full support to the postponement of the Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay elections.
In an interview yesterday, Garcia said the postponement would divert officials from implementing projects for the sake of re-election.
"I fully agree because bisan gani sa ato, sa local, kani magsige lang ta ug election? Wa tay continuity," she said.
Last December 3, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed a bill – now Republic Act 11462 – which moves the May 2020 barangay and Sanguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to December 2022.
Garcia added that she would also be presenting guidelines on the allowed provincial aid to the barangays during the general assembly of the Association of Barangay Captains today.
The guidelines would ensure that assistance given by the province would benefit the residents who are in need.
"I will be outlining our rules as regards the request for financial assistance from our barangays. Duna na koy pamaagi to ensure nga ang kwarta nato, kung gastuon man, dunay lasting value ug mas daghan ang makagamit," she said.
Garcia also hopes for barangays to shell out as much of their funds for their projects, and not direct so much on savings.
She also said that the province will no longer accept requests for medals, monobloc chairs, tents and the like.
Right now, the Province of Cebu is continuing its inventory on all assistance given to barangays over the past years. (FREEMAN)
