China promotes BRI thru tea culture show

CEBU, Philippines — To promote the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and traditional Chinese culture, the Fujian International Culture Association, the Fujian Provincial People’s Government Press Office and various Filipino-Chinese organizations in Cebu, with support from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Cebu, brought to Cebu last November 30, the Maritime Silk Route Tea Culture Show.

An initiative of the Fujian Provincial People’s Government Press Office and Fujian Foreign Cultural Exchange Association’s, the cultural show hopes to help enhance cooperation between Fujian province, and the countries and regions along the BRI, as well as expand the influence of Chinese tea culture overseas.

Tea and Chinese tea culture is used to promote mutual understanding and friendship with countries and regions around the world.

The project combines “tea art performance + video play + live interaction” with Chinese traditional cultural expressions: singing, dancing, Hakka puppet show, calligraphy and martial arts. The Art Troupe of actors enthralled the audience and received a warm welcome.

Seeing firsthand the various tea art performances was indeed a culturally enriching experience. Fujian is one of the traditional tea regions in China.

It has a great number of tea varieties. Wuyi Rock Tea, Anxi Tieguanyin, and Fuzhou Jasmine Tea are among those popular with tea enthusiasts at home and abroad. With its rich tea culture, Fujian has developed tea art expressions like puppet tea art, Tai Chi tea art, and bridal tea art incorporated with Chinese traditions and culture.

Johannesburg in South Africa, Hong Kong, Macao and Manila are among the places the Maritime Silk Route Tea Culture Show has been successfully performed in.

An artist from China’s Gansu Provincial Opera and Dance Drama Theater performs during a cultural exchange event, themed “Meeting Across Millennia: Cultural Interactions Along the Enchanting Silk.”

Tea drinking is popular in the Philippines but most of us don’t know much about tea culture and how it relates to our everyday lives.

Tea is an important part of Chinese tradition. As Chinese society developed and progressed, tea production has played a role in driving economic development while tea consumption has remained a practice of daily life.

China is the homeland of tea. Chinese tea culture covers all realms of life. The study of Chinese tea culture is of great significance in that it is closely related with Chinese traditional culture.

Tea was first discovered by the Chinese and used as medicine. Then it evolved into a type of beverage, and became an integral part of Chinese culture. Today, tea has been consumed as a beverage all over the world more than any other beverage except for water. (FREEMAN)
