Daughter of ex-baragay captain killed

CEBU, Philippines —  The daughter of a former barangay captain of Jagoliao, Getafe, Bohol was shot dead inside her house in Barangay Suba, Cebu City past midnight Friday.

The victim, Vicenta Abaño, 40, is the fourth member of her family who was shot dead since June this year.

Authorities found Abaño with two gunshot wounds to her neck and arm.

They also found two empty shells of a still unidentified firearm.

Initial investigation revealed that two men followed Abaño to her house. One entered the house and shot Abaño while the other stood guard outside.

“Wala syay kuyog sa ilang balay… nangita man sya sa iyang live-in partner kuno, apan wala man, nibalik sya diha sa ilahang balay… nya wala sya kabalo gisundan na diay sya  (She was alone at that time… she looked for her live-in partner but when she couldn’t find him, she went back to her house unaware that she was being followed),” said Police Col. Carlo Irizari of the San Nicolas Police Station.

Irizari said based on accounts of her neighbors, Abaño was a drug user, but this information needs to be validated. 

Considering this information, however, as well as the gruesome killing, police are eyeing personal grudge as possible motive.

Irizari said they are also not discounting the possibility that Abaño’s killing is related to that of her father, Alejandro, and her uncle.

Alejandro and a relative were shot on June 28 while his brother was shot on July 19.  JMO (FREEMAN)
