CEBU, Philippines — Central Visayas has recorded 26,253 dengue cases that claimed 133 lives, based on the data from the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) of the Department of Health (DOH)-7.

This figure is 49 percent higher compared to the same period last year, wherein the region only had 17,595 cases with 104 deaths.

Those greatly affected by the disease are boys within the six to 10-year-old bracket.

The top 10 areas in Central Visayas that had the most dengue cases include Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Dumaguete City, Naga City, Danao City, Talisay City, Minglanilla, Tagbilaran City ug Toledo City.

Cebu City had 3,070 cases with 20 deaths; Lapu-Lapu City had 1,427 with three deaths; Mandaue City has recorded 944 cases and four deaths; Dumaguete City had 808 cases and one death; while the City of Naga had 746 cases and one death.

Danao City had 679 cases; Talisay City has 612 cases and four fatalities; Minglanilla had 531 and one death; Tagbilaran City had 451 cases and eight deaths, while Toledo City had 438 cases with four deaths.

The DOH has reminded the public to clean their surroundings, and to keep receptacles that may catch water that may be used as breeding ground of dengue-carrying mosquitoes. /GAN (FREEMAN)
