30 kilos of drugs set for destruction

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Around 30 kilos of illegal drugs confiscated from different suspects in various operations are set for destruction this December 10.

“Tanan nga droga nga nahuman ang kaso ug katong mga droga nga gi-submit sa amoa nga namatay nang suspek, i-destruct na nato karong December 10,” Police Colonel Roderick Pausal, director of PNP Crime Lab -7, told reporters Tuesday morning.

The 30 kilos of illegal drugs were evidence confiscated from the previous cases that had been resolved in court and subject for turnover to PDEA since they were considered as “closed cases.”

Pausal said those drugs abandoned cases will be also part of the scheduled destruction.

The scheduled turnover for the evidence to PDEA-7 will be on December 3 or 4, days before its destruction.

Pausal emphasized that the destruction of evidence, along with the inventory of the illegal drugs confiscated, is meant to send a statement that it is not hiding anything even in the midst of “ninja cops” reports.

It was reported that several police officers in the country were tagged as ninja cops for allegedly recycling confiscated illegal drugs during the operation and using them for their own consumption or benefit.

The issue on ninja cops led the authorities to conduct an inventory of the confiscated illegal drugs and their consequent destruction this coming December 10, said Pausal.

“Kami sa PNP, ganahan mi ana para ang mga droga nga naa sa among kustodiya mawala pud kay daghan na baya diha sa amoa ang mga ebidensya,” he said.

Pausal said that they are still collating information to know which year the illegal drugs were seized.

Pausal said that the crime lab has finished the inventory of the evidence confiscated between 2018 and 2019 and will continue accounting for those confiscated during the previous years.

“Para pud once and for  all mawala ang duda nga ang droga gina recycle ra,” Pausal said, reiterating the importance of the destruction.  JMD (FREEMAN)
